28 new cases were registered during these three months. Some cases were referred by other medical centre, some of them through patients and society members and DNA&JUST DIAL services. All were detected cases of HIV so counseling and treatment was advised to them. Few patients were referred to government hospital for the further treatment.
Follow-up of the patient was around 123 per month. Counseling session was organized for the children before the school exams (mid of Feb).
During this period we had 4 patients from different states (Hyderabad, Rajasthan, and Delhi & Uttar Pradesh). More cases were seen from the Darji community. This patients were unfortunately were into their terminal stages.
There were also inquiries from youngsters who had history of exposure and had fear that they would have been infected with HIV. Intensive counseling was done for this people. They were also advised to undergo RNA PCR rest to rule out the chance of HIV infection.
During an home visit to Dahisar(east) we saw a patient whose CD4 count was only 1(normal count—between 600 to 1200).The patient was admitted to different hospitals &finally taken to his native place in Rajasthan were he succumbed to his illness.
4 patients were given blood transfusion at our centre. They all had zidovidine induced anemia.
The eldest surviving female patient (16 years) passed her 9th standard & will be appearing for her SSC exams in 2010.
We had organize program for the donors, and prospective donors there they had interaction with children. They made out the problems faced by them and accordingly they agreed to help our children with their best effort.
We celebrated holi (festival of color) with the widows; they had good time with each other. It was a support group meeting; they discussed the adherence to ART and the system to follow for the government medical institution. Even they shared the health issue of their HIV positive children.
Awareness programme was conducted at first source the call centre in new Mumbai vashi .approximately 100 people attended the awareness programme and the question session was arranged for them. They cleared their doubt, myths and misconception about HIV/AIDS. These were good opportunities for young entrepreneurs to come forward and enhance their knowledge about the disease.
